Attempt Murder and Arson Arrest

On September 26th, 2024 at 2:15am Saugeen Shores Police and Saugeen Shores Fire Department were dispatched to a residential fire in Southampton.  As result of an investigation and with consultation from the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall, it was determined the cause of the fire was suspicious.

The Criminal Investigations Division of the Saugeen Shores Police Service continued the investigation and determined that the cause of the fire was arson.

On October 10th, 2024 officers arrested and charged an adult male resident of Arran-Elderslie with the following criminal offences in relation to this incident:

1.            Attempt to Commit Murder;

2.            Arson – Disregard for Human Life;

3.            Mischief Endangering Life;

4.            Assault Cause Bodily Harm;

5.            Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm.

Following the arrest of the male, police executed a search warrant at a residence in Arran-Elderslie.  During that search police located a quantity of cocaine and other drug trafficking paraphernalia, not related to the arson offence.  As a result, the male and an adult female residing in the residence were jointly charged with:

1.            Trafficking – Cocaine;

2.            Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine.

Both individuals were held in custody for a bail hearing.
