DRUG TRAFFICKING CONVICTION
On June 9th 2021 Saugeen Shores Police were dispatched to the area of Bluewater Drive for a report of a highly impaired person walking in the area. Police attended and located a male matching the description and placed him under detention and a pat down search was conducted. During this search officers discovered three containers of Fentanyl. The male was also wanted on an outstanding warrant. He was arrested at that time.
The Fentanyl seized totaled 43 grams.
The Accused was released from custody on November 8th 2021 with House Arrest conditions.
On January 11th 2024 the Accused, a 35-Year-Old Port Elgin resident, was convicted of Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking. He was sentenced to 6 years in custody (2190 days) minus 231 days pre-trial custody.
The Accused failed to attend court for his sentencing.
On January 17th 2024 Saugeen Shores Police located the Accused and placed him under arrest on the strength of a Bench Warrant. He was brought directly to court where he was remanded into custody to serve his sentence.
**Fentanyl is a highly potent Opioid pain reliever. It is 20-30 times more potent than Heroin and 100 times more potent than Morphine. 3,970 deaths in Canada between Jan-June 2023 were linked to Opioid Overdoses.**
