Operation “Hand Free” Distracted Driving Results

On January 29th officers embarked on a two week traffic enforcement and awareness campaign targeting distracted driving.

The Saugeen Shores Police Service has experienced a drop in incidents involving drivers using hand held communication devices.  The reduction in occurrences is attributed to awareness and public knowledge that our officers are actively looking for violators.

Our past “Hands Free” campaign in February 2020, officers laid seven charges. This year’s campaign officers charged four drivers with distracted driving.

During the enforcement initiative officers laid a total of 56 provincial offence notices. The majority of the charges were for other Highway Traffic Act violations.

The Saugeen Shores Police Service recognizes that distracted driving persists to be a problem and our officers are still actively pursue violators.

Our next traffic enforcement and awareness campaign targeting the “rules of the road” will take place in March.
