Impaired Driving Arrest

On October 24th 2020 at 1:57pm Police received a report of a single motor vehicle collision in the area of South Street and Huron Street, in the Town of Saugeen Shores.

Police arrived to find that a vehicle had struck a lone tree on the South Street Beach.

Witnesses advised police that the vehicle failed to stop at several stop signs and struck a stop sign while traveling at high rates of speed before crashing through a wooden barricade located at the South Street Beach entrance.

Police spoke with the driver of the vehicle and observed several signs of impairment. The male was placed under arrest for Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired.

The male was transported to Grey Bruce Health Services – Southampton to be treated for minor injuries.

A Qualified Intoxilyzer Technician attended the Hospital and the male provided two suitable samples of breath which registered three times the legal limit.

As a result of this investigation a 19 year old Belgrave man has been charged with:

1. Operation While Impaired – BAC over .80
2. Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available
3. Novice Driver – B.A.C. above zero
4. Drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor
5. Drive motor vehicle with liquor readily available
6. Possession of untaxed cigars and other tobacco

In addition to these charges his licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He was released with a future court date.
