Thanksgiving Weekend Impaired Driving Arrests
Media Release – Impaired Driving Incidents
Incident #1
On October 13th at 5:04am an officer was conducting stationary radar speed enforcement on Bruce County Road 3 and observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. The officer activated the radar and received a reading of 129 km in an 80 km zone.
During a vehicle the stop the male driver was identified and was found to be in violation of a curfew as a result of a recognizance of bail. The officer also observed the male to be in an intoxicated state. He was placed under arrest for operation while impaired and breach of a recognizance. He was transported to the station for a breath test and further investigation.
At the station the male provided two samples of 132 milligrams in 100 millilitres of blood and 135 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
A 24 year old Southampton man has been charged with:
- Breach of recognizance (curfew violation)
- Breach of recognizance (alcohol prohibition)
- Breach of probation
- Operation while impaired
- Driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor
- Speeding
The male was held for a bail hearing
Incident #2
On October 14th at 2:48am officers responded to public complaint concerning a possible impaired driver on Goderich Street in Port Elgin.
A patrol officer located the suspect vehicle on Highway 21 in Southampton a short time later and stopped the vehicle. The officer spoke to the male driver who exhibited signs of alcohol consumption. A roadside demand for a breath sample was made. The test was administered resulting in a fail.
The male was transported to the station for breath test. While at the station the male provided two breath samples of 180 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood and 170 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
A 40 year old Southampton man has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired (alcohol)
The male was released with a court date
