Impaired Driving and Drug Trafficking
Media Release – Impaired Driving by Drug and Drug Trafficking Offences
On October 5th at 9:57 pm a member of the Criminal Investigations and Drug Unit was on general patrol in Southampton when the officer observed a vehicle being operated in a suspicious manner.
A vehicle stop was conducted on Railway Street. The officer spoke to the male driver who displayed signs of being impaired by drugs. An at scene investigation revealed that the driver was in possession of a schedule 1 drug. The male was placed under arrest for possession of drugs and operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs.
The male was transported to the police station where he was turned over the a Drug Recognition Expert for an evaluation. The result of the tests confirmed that the male’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by the consumption of drugs.
A further investigation revealed several individually wrapped baggies of suspected crystal methamphetamine and a quantity of fentanyl.
A 63 year old Southampton man has been charged with:
- Operate a conveyance while impaired by drug
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Methamphetamine
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking - Fentanyl
The male was held for a bail hearing.
