Media Release – Shoplifting and Possession of Methamphetamine

On Tuesday, August 6th a man was observed by witnesses in the Port Elgin Walmart concealing several items in trash can.  The man was observed to leave the store making no attempt to pay.

Moments later same man was observed by the same witnesses in Canadian Tire with items concealed in his clothing.  He was observed to leave the store without paying. A witness and store employees attempted to confront the man, but he fled in a vehicle on Bricker Street.

A Saugeen Shores officer located the vehicle leaving Port Elgin on Highway 21 a short time later.  A vehicle stop was conducted and the man was arrested.  A search of the vehicle revealed several stolen items from Walmart and Canadian Tire and methamphetamine.

An investigation revealed that the man was currently serving a conditional sentence in the community resulting from a previous conviction and was to be under house arrest.

A 25 year old Wiarton man has been charged with:

  1. Theft Under $5000
  2. Possession of property obtained by crime Under $5000
  3. Possession of property obtained by crime Under $5000
  4. Possession of a schedule I substance – methamphetamine

He was held for a bail hearing and a future judicial review of his conditional sentence.
